Are therapy & support groups different?

Group therapy uses structured therapeutic techniques to address mental health topics and achieve specific goals. In contrast, support groups provide a supportive environment where individuals with similar experiences can share and offer mutual support. While group therapy focuses on treatment through evidence-based practices, support groups emphasize relationships, community building and shared understanding.

Therapy Groups

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
is a structured, short-term therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve emotional regulation and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help individuals manage emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviors, and improve relationships.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, and to commit to actions aligned with their values, fostering psychological flexibility and resilience.
